Les Bird, a former senior officer in Hong Kong’s marine police, presents his second book: Along the Southern Boundary.

Bird was one of the senior officers responsible for the interception and rescue of tens of thousands of Vietnamese boat people, as they attempted to cross the South China Sea to Hong Kong.

This book tells of his experiences patrolling Hong Kong’s southern maritime border, and includes a previously un-published collection of photographs, as well as personal accounts from himself, fellow officers and Vietnamese who survived the journey.

It’s a detailed, fascinating insight into the events of that dramatic time. Do please join us for the live-streamed event, as Bird relates some of his experiences and shows some of his historic images.
